An interesting study shows that one might diagnose early Alzheimer’s by looking at blood vessel density in the retina. The technology, OCTA, is only available in research institutions so it is not practical now. However, this could be a breakthrough in how we can bring drugs to market that are able to slow the rate of decline of cognitive function. If this pans out, we have a control group and a study group that we can test drugs in and see if they are effective. Very important as the numbers of Alzheimers patients is only increasing and there is no viable treatment in sight!
